Hinge damage gets worse every time the lid is opened, and left alone it ends in a torn display cable or a cracked screen. The fix is cheap compared with what it prevents. We rebuild the mounting, replace the hinge where it has worn, and replace cracked plastics and covers where the make still supplies them.
What the repair involves
- The hinge stripped, cleaned and re-tensioned, or replaced where it has worn
- Broken hinge mounts rebuilt so the new hinge has something to hold
- Cracked covers, bezels, palm rests and bottom cases replaced where the part exists
- The display cable and Wi-Fi antenna checked, because they run through the hinge and tear first

Questions we get asked
- The plastic around the hinge has cracked. Is that repairable?
- Yes, nearly always. The mount is rebuilt or the cover replaced, and the hinge is re-seated so it does not happen again.
- Can I keep using it until I bring it in?
- Open it as little as possible. Each opening pulls on the display cable, and that is the part that turns a hinge job into a screen job.
- Do you do dents and scratches on a MacBook?
- A bent corner or lid can often be straightened, and bottom cases can be replaced. Deep scratches are cosmetic and usually not worth the cost of a new part, and we will say so.
