Questions we get asked
- How do I know if my MacBook battery needs replacing?
- Hold Option and click the Apple menu, then System Information → Power. If the cycle count is over about 1,000, or the condition reads anything other than Normal, it is due. Bring it in and we will read it for you at no charge.
- My trackpad has started clicking badly. Is that the battery?
- Very often, yes. A swollen battery presses up against the underside of the trackpad. Stop using the machine and bring it in — a swollen cell is the one battery fault that should not wait.
- Will a new battery void my Apple warranty?
- If your Mac is still inside Apple's warranty or AppleCare, take it to Apple. This service is for machines that are out of cover, where Apple's own pricing usually makes the repair uneconomic.
