Most laptops from the last ten years are held back by one of two things: a spinning hard drive, or too little memory. An SSD makes a machine boot in seconds and open things instantly, and it is the single biggest upgrade a laptop can get. We tell you which one your machine needs, fit it, and move everything across so you sit down to the same desktop, only faster.
What the repair involves
- A check of what the machine will take: drive type, memory slots and the maximum it supports
- An SSD fitted, with Windows or macOS and all your files and programs cloned across
- Memory added or replaced where the machine allows it
- The old drive handed back to you, or wiped properly if you prefer
How it works
- 1Message us the model and the fault. The model number is enough for us to tell you whether we have the part.
- 2We reply with what the fault is likely to be and a quote.
- 3Bring it to Shop 23, Gateway Hotel Building, Meena Bazaar, with the charger. We message you when it is done and tested.
Questions we get asked
- Will I lose anything?
- No. We clone the old drive to the new one, so your desktop, programs and files come across as they were. Keep your own backup anyway, as a rule.
- Can my MacBook be upgraded?
- MacBooks from 2012 to about 2015 can take a bigger SSD, and some older ones take memory. Newer MacBooks have storage and memory soldered to the board, so the upgrade is not possible. Send the model and we will tell you which yours is.
- SSD or more memory?
- If it is slow to start and slow to open things, the SSD. If it is fine at first and bogs down with several things open, memory. Often both, and we will say so rather than sell you one you do not need.
